About

Nahal Kadesh runs down from the Metzudat Koach (Nabi Yusha) area east toward the Hula Valley. Along the gorge there are three waterfalls, but the first two lie inside the Nahal Kadesh nature reserve, where canyoning is forbidden. Rappelling is allowed only at the third, the tallest of them, which is outside the reserve.

The stream is usually dry and only has water after heavy rain. In winter the route can be muddy. The walk links up with the Israel National Trail, and the gorge looks out to the Naftali mountains, the Hula Valley and the Golan Heights.

Access notes

From Route 899 to the Nahal Kadesh parking, close to Yesha junction. You can also start from Metzudat Koach. The route links up with the Israel National Trail.

Safety

The first two waterfalls are inside the reserve and canyoning there is forbidden; rappel only at the third. Entering the gorge is forbidden during flood warnings, and in winter the route is muddy and slippery. Check the forecast before setting out.

Weather constraints

המסלול עלול להיות בוצי בחורף. הכניסה לערוץ הנחל אסורה בזמן התרעות שיטפון. מים בנחל רק לאחר גשמים כבדים.

Recommendations

Suits teenagers and adults with basic rappelling experience, not complete beginners. Come in the dry season, when the gorge is not muddy, and end the day at the well-equipped parking.

Equipment

A rope long enough for the third waterfall, a harness and helmet for each rappeller, and shoes with good grip for the gorge.
