About
Nahal Amud runs down from Mount Meron to the Sea of Galilee, and its upper part is an organized Israel Nature and Parks Authority reserve. The stream flows year round, lined with tall limestone cliffs, caves and plenty of wildlife. The reserve has two routes: Upper Nahal Amud, the long one, and Lower Nahal Amud, the shorter one.
Rare birds nest in the cliffs and an endemic snail lives on them, so some caves are closed to entry, among them the Skull Cave, home to bats. The data records no rappels in the stream, and a visit is mainly a stream hike on foot.
Walking in the reserve is allowed in daylight only. Groups must book and pay in advance, even when they enter from Nahal Meron or from the Pitul campsite. A managed overnight campsite operates at the reserve entrance.
Getting there

Safety
Walking is allowed in daylight only, and each route has a last entry time, earlier for the long route. Entry to the Skull Cave and to caves without a trail is forbidden. Wild boar, hyenas and wolves live in the reserve: do not leave food out.
Recommendations
Good for stream hikes with groups and families in every season. Groups book in advance. If you want the long route, start early, before its entry closes.
