Beit Aryeh CliffBig

The big cliff at Beit Aryeh is a well-bolted sport-climbing crag above Nahal Shilo, on the edge of the settlement. It has a wide range of routes, from moderate to hard, and is one of the main climbing venues in Samaria. It is a climbing site, not a rappelling site.

Access goes through the settlement. At the gate, ask the guard for the key to the perimeter fence gate and leave an ID. From the parking, take the steps down to a plaza with a pergola and a water tap, go out through the gate and follow the path down to the west until it turns east and the cliff comes into view.

Thanks to its aspect the wall is shaded from midday, so it can be climbed all year. On Fridays it can get crowded.

מהשער בכניסה לבית אריה ממשיכים לנקודה שמצויינת במפה בהמשך, שם חונים.

Enter Beit Aryeh, stop at the gate and ask the guard for the key to the perimeter fence gate, in exchange for an ID. Continue to the parking spot, take the steps down to the pergola plaza, go out through the gate and follow the path down to the cliff. Lock the gate on the way out and on the way back, or climbers may lose access through the settlement.

Park inside the settlement, at the spot above the steps that lead down to the pergola plaza. The plaza has benches and a water tap.

After rain the rock and the path are slippery, so better not to come. On Fridays the crag is busy, so coordinate route use with other groups. Access is through a guarded settlement: follow the guards' instructions.

Suits climbers with sport-climbing experience and guided climbing groups. Afternoons are shaded and comfortable even in summer. The same day can include the small Beit Aryeh cliff, the lookout at Peduel, Horvat Tzarda and the Nahal Shilo horseshoe bend.

A dynamic climbing rope long enough for the longest routes and a full set of quickdraws.
