About

The Kedumim quarries (Mahtzevot Kedumim) are an ancient quarry in the Carmel reserve, beside the road from Atlit to Beit Oren. The quarry wall is vertical and bolted along its whole length, so even on a busy day several groups can work side by side.

The rappel is easy, from bolted stations on the east side, with a little scree at the bottom. Alongside it there are bolted climbing routes from moderate grades upward.

To reach the top, walk from the parking along the road to the black-marked trail, then up an easy slope past a large olive-press stone and some rock steps with railings. Climbers go down from the parking to the base on an unmarked path, not on the green trail.

Getting there

מכוונים בוויז ל-מצוק מחצבת קדומים. לפני העלייה לחוות משמר הכרמל יש חנייה ניתן לחנות בה ומשם לעלות לכיוון המצוק. יש סמ"ש שחור שמוביל למעלה המצוק והמקום משולט. אגב- זה אחלה מקום לעצירת בוקר לקפה א. בוקר, יש פחים גדולים אז שמרו על הנקיון 🙂

לגולשים: מהחנייה שביל צמוד לכביש עד הגעה לחיבור עם סמ"ש שחור, עלייה קלילה עם 'ים' גדול של בית בד כמה מדרגות סלע קלילות עם מעקות. ואתם במעלה המצוק.

למטפסים: מהחנייה ירידה קלילה, שימו לב לא לרדת למסלול הירוק, אלה לשביל עיוור (סמ"ש לבן ללא מילוי ז"א קו לבן, ללא צבע וקו לבן נוסף)

Access notes

Set Waze to 'מצוק מחצבת קדומים'. Parking is just before the climb to the Mishmar HaCarmel farm. Rappellers: walk from the parking along the road to the black trail, then up an easy slope with rock steps and railings to the top. Climbers: an easy walk down from the parking to the base on an unmarked path, not the green trail. The site is signposted.

Parking

Free parking before the climb to the Mishmar HaCarmel farm, a few minutes' walk from the cliff. There are large bins; keep the place clean.

Safety

On days after rain the rock is slippery, so better not to come. There is scree at the bottom of the rappel, so keep a staff member at the base. The site is in an Israel Nature and Parks Authority reserve; stay on the marked trails.

Weather constraints

Recommendations

Good for families, beginners and large groups thanks to the short access and easy rappel. It works all year except on days after rain. Pines at the top shade the rappellers most of the day; climbers on the wall prefer the late afternoon. Also a nice spot for a morning coffee stop.

Equipment

For rappelling, two medium-length ropes. For climbing, a long rope and a full set of quickdraws. A helmet and harness for each participant.
